The Roots of Llys Derwen Run Deep

Llys Derwen’s roots go back to 1960 when Heledds’ grandfather, William Hugh Griffith along side his wife Elspeth, founded their first campsite & caravan park in the heart of Snowdonia and a stone throw away from Llys Derwen. Growing from a few tents and caravans to over 100 pitches.

Following on from William Hugh Griffith’s success, Bethan and Emrys Jones went on to purchase Llys Derwen in 1997 and had the passion and vison to evolve the Campsite & Caravan Park, starting with just a 5 van CL site. Through deloping the family home and surrounding grounds Bethan and Emrys grew the campsite in the heart of North Wales to what it is today, catering for tourers, caravans, campervans and tents.

Keeping it in the family, Bethan and Emrys’ daughter, Heledd decided to take over the Campsite with her husband Nathan and their children in 2023. Although Emrys has now officially retired, he will still be lending us a hand, and showing us the ropes whilst we venture on this exciting new chapter for Llys Derwen Carvan & Campsite!

Our family run Carvan and Campsite is situated close to mount Snowdon (SH 60986 54375) and in an ideal location to explore Snowdonia National Park.

A 3min walk from the main entrance you'll find a local family pub, and just a further 10min walk you'll find a local Butchers, Chip shop, Co-Op & Spar, all that's needed for your camping vacation in Snowdonia. We also have a Local Indian Restraunt 'Caernarfon Tandoori' which deliver Indian meals directly to your pitch on the campsite, they have recently won Best Indian Restraunt in the Country and do a fantastic Tandoori Chicken!

Our Campsite is also on the Sherpa Bus Route. The bus Stop is situated just at the bottom of the hill from the Campsite main entrance where you can catch a bus into Llanberis or Caernarfon every hour, a huge benefit to help avoid congestion and costly car parking in Llanberis if your planning to climb Snowdon.

For a more relaxed afternoon you can expect to travel just 10mins via car to the Local Beach in Caernarfon 'Dinas Dinlle', or just 15mins you can cross Menai Bridge and walk along the beautiful Menai Strait.

A short walk from Menai Bridge town centre brings visitors to the base of the Menai Suspension Bridge, from where the true scale of this remarkable structure is best appreciated. The Belgium Promenade (built by Flemish refugees from the Great War between 1914-16) leads south west from here shortly reaching a causeway that links Church island and the ancient Church of St Tysilio to the shore. A short walk around the church cemetery affords wonderful views of the Menai Strait, both bridges and Ynys Gorad Goch island, whose residents once made a living from the fish caught at the traps built there. Menai bridge has a selection of interesting shops, including antiques, books and ironmongers. There is a good collection of pubs and restaurants catering for all tastes, including local seafood.
